Spring Hill Farms is steadily building an outstanding reputation in the Louisiana Quarter Horse breeding industry.
The property consists of two locations in Kaplan, Louisiana owned by David Dunn. The founder of a successful surveying company specializing in the oil and gas industry, David has always had a passion for horses. He began breeding Quarter Horses in 2011 under the name of D&S Racing LLC before opening Spring Hill Farms. Dunn vaulted into the spotlight in 2016 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale with a filly named Dashnunder Afullmoon. The daughter of Heza Fast Dash out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Full Moon Dasher was purchased for $44,500 by Rogelio Marquez, Jr. and showed incredible talent on the racetrack. She set the fastest qualifying time and dominated her rivals in the rich Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs. The multiple-stakes winner won eight of her 11 starts, earning $711,951. For those onlookers chalking that up to a very lucky debut into the highly competitive breeding business, Spring Hill Farms replicated that feat with another filly the following year! The diminutive Eysa Jess Jumpn, also by Heza Fast Dash out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Jumpn, sold for just $11,500. Owner Jose Estrada Quarter Horses watched his filly win five races in 2018, including the $700,000 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) and Louisiana Champions Juvenile (G2). She remained undefeated in her 3-year-old campaign winning 9 races in 9 starts including the Breeders Derby bringing her career total earnings to $921,537.
If breeding back-to-back Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) champions were not enough, Spring Hill Farms also sold the sale topper at the 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale. Moonocracy, a colt by Apollitical Blood out of the Dash Ta Fame Mare Full Moon Dasher went for $205,000.
A strong broodmare band is the foundation of the breeding program at Spring Hill Farms, and currently, the roster includes stakes winning/producing mares like Full Moon Dasher, Jet Black Rogue, Jen And Vodka, Streakin Angelica, Annas Streakin Dash and First Prize Pearl. Spring Hill Farms consigns yearlings out of these mares to the LQHBA Yearling Sale, the Ruidoso Select Sale and Heritage Place Sale.
In August, 2019, Dunn announced that the farm will begin standing stallions for the 2020 breeding season. Eagle Deluxe, Fast Prize Jordan, Louisiana Jambalaya, and a barrel racing stallion, Proud To Be Famous, are available for booking in the newly constructed building housing six extra-large stallion stalls, semen collection and semen lab, and an office and reception area to greet clients and visitors to the farm.
In addition to stallion and mare services, Spring Hill Farms offers foaling, boarding, and sale prepping. The entire team is committed to quality care for each of the mares and stallions on the farm and to breeding top caliber racing champions. Personal attention to every aspect of the services and clients is the top priority for Spring Hill Farms.
